Mining

The two largest mining commodities being exported through the Port of Thevenard are salt and gypsum.

The region has the largest deposit of gypsum in the Southern Hemisphere with approximately 1.685 million tonnes being exported per annum. An average yield of 125,000 tonnes of salt per year is exported through the Port of Thevenard to the Eastern States of Australia and overseas.

Iluka Resources Limited are currenly establishing the Jacinth-Ambrosia mineral sands mine to the northwest of Ceduna in the Eucla Basin. For more information see Mining Major Projects.
